Post Citizenship of my soon to be baby...
Hi,

I'm married with Irish Citizen and we are having a baby soon. I plan to have my baby in the Philippines before we apply for a visa to Ireland. Anyone here knows how can I claim the Irish citizenship of my child before bringing my soon to be baby in Ireland. As much as I knew the law of Ireland, a child of an irish citizen born outside Ireland is still Irish citizen.

Thanks a lot. Appreciate any information.

Ms. Irene

You are exactly right.Any child born with Irish parent or parents is an Irish citizen,no matter where the child is born.In fact, even children with Irish grandparents are entitled to be Irish citizens. So if you are married to an Irish man, your child will automatically be entitled to an Irish passport/citizenship.How you go about getting that,im sorry i dont know.Maybe this link will help http://www.dfa.ie/home/index.aspx?id=267.
Good luck with everything.

hello irene, congratulations on the baby! what a wonderful news!
anyways, yes, like dec has said, your baby is an irish citizen:

Citizenship through descent
If either of your parents was an Irish citizen at the time of your birth, you are an Irish citizen, irrespective of your place of birth (unless one of the special conditions relating to birth outside Ireland applies; these are described below). If the parent through whom you derive Irish citizenship was not alive at the time of your birth, but would have been an Irish citizen if alive at that time, you are also an Irish citizen. You derive citizenship through an Irish parent whether or not your parents were married to each other at the time of your birth.
If you were born outside Ireland to an Irish citizen who was himself or herself born in Ireland, then you are an Irish citizen.

you must ring the Irish Consulate in Manila for a full list of the requirements, as well as for the application of the baby's passport.

take care and happy pregnancy! <3

Hi Odette,

Thank you. Things happened so fast between me and my husband. As you know I just got married last August 1 & now we'll be having a baby, I'm still very surprised! We are both happy :) Thank you for the info you provided me and also thanks to Dec. At least I know I won't have to worry anything when it comes to my baby, I'll just have to worry about getting my visa alone, I'll apply it next year.

Thanks a lot...

Ms. Irene
